We Can Help You Preserve Your Healthy Gums
Our doctors want to treat any gum infections quickly and early, before they can cause more serious problems. Common symptoms of periodontal disease include:
If we notice a problem, we’ll attack it with a treatment called scaling and root planing. This a two-step deep cleaning procedure. First, we remove tartar buildup on the roots of your teeth below your gumline. Then, we smooth the surface of the tooth roots so the tooth can reattach to the gums more easily.
If additional care is needed, we can prescribe an antibiotic to kill any harmful bacteria that may remain. In some situations, we may use laser dentistry to remove infected tissue. If you have any dental anxiety about these procedures, we use Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) and can painlessly deliver local anesthetic to ensure you are pain-free.
Dental health experts estimate that 3 out of every 4 people in the U.S. will develop gum disease during their lives. Advanced gum disease has been linked to diabetes complications, heart disease, and other systemic health problems. Periodontal disease also is the leading cause of tooth loss in the United States.
